Insect Wonderland by Constance M. Foot

Reviewed briefly in "The Dial: A Semi-Monthly Journal of Literary Criticism, Discussion and Information" (Jun 1st 1910) it was said of this book: "In the same plan as her successful little book called Science Through Stories, Miss Constance M. Foot has prepared an account in which the essential facts of insect life are made attractive and intelligible to the youngest reader."

What I am always struck by with books like this is that there are so many wonderful drawings and illustrations that are essentially being lost to history. The drawings are certainly not masterpieces or even collectible, as are some of the illustrations and plates I have reproduced on this site, but they are well done, very detailed, and remain useful for any number of purposes. The amount of effort put into the work by the illustrator is evident, yet it is the type of book that is continually passed over or discarded because, perhaps, the science or presentation is out of date. You can usually find a copy of this book, but it is fairly scarce, especially in good or intact condition.
