My Days & Nights on the Battle-Field

This book was written and published during the United States Civil War as an attempt to explain and describe the "Great Rebellion." "Carleton" was the pen name of Charles Carleton Coffin. These images are from the 2nd edition (1864), although the book went through many subsequent editions and publishers. It is considered a Civil War classic and remains in print to this day. The entire book is digitized at Google Books, although the illustrations are not of good quality at Google.
